I thought so, too, but deferred to the seller. It's possible that it's very thin oils, and Caniff was known to paint in oils sometimes.
The first time I tried to use watercolors, I tried to "draw" with the brush. The first couple of times I used oils, I tried to use them like watercolors. So sometimes it's hard to tell.
I wish i could leave comments on eBay. That's not an oil painting. I t appears to be watercolor over an ink drawing. Just sayin'...

Caniff only painted three art works in Oil and this is not one.
