There is a sculpture of Lil' Abner's Lonesome Polecat on the front of Seneca High School in Louisville KY. The school actually got Al Capp's permission to use Lonesome as their mascot back in 1958, I believe.
It's made of fiber glass. I know this because we stole it the summer before my senior year, way back in 1987. But that's another story.
There is a great one of popeye in Chester Ill. if you can get it.
