Take a look at this beautiful brush work by Alex Raymond. Raymond was one of the masters of the adventure comic strip, along with greats such as Burne Hogarth and Hal Foster.
We rarely get to see a piece of their original art. The absorbency of newsprint does not lend itself to faithfully reproducing delicate linework like this. On the other hand, when this was in the Sunday comics, it was about fifteen inches across and took up the entire page. That helps to compensate a little bit.
